Education 2016

The 2016 JJ Collett Classroom program commenced on April 12 and ended on May 24. As in past years, schools were looking forward to the program. Presentations were delivered to 18 Grade 6 classrooms in 9 area schools. Schools included in the program were; Alix-Mac, Clive, Ecole Upper Elementary Lacombe, Father Lacombe Separate School, Iron Wood Junior Campus Blackfalds, Lacombe Christian School, Ponoka Elementary School, St. Augustine’s Separate and Terrace Ridge Lacombe. This year we also lead a group of 38 Grade 2 students from Ermineskin School in Muskwacis. In 2017 we are planning on expanding the presentation to the Ermineskin Grade 6 classes.

The fieldtrip program began on May 18 and continued until June 22 (one school changed dates). A total of 540 students participated in the fieldtrips and a total of 42 adult chaperones accompanied the students. Thank you to Ember Resources for sponsoring the program again this year.

Ember personnel at the media day, were impressed by the program presented to the students. Once, again, St. Augustine’s School is the only school to make a donation to JJ Collett. As in past years, students were well behaved and enjoyed the fieldtrips. This is largely due to the classroom presentation which clearly outlined the behavioral expectations. Rhonda Easton assisted with the classroom program and the fieldtrips. The Grade 6 science teachers, are the group that expresses the greatest thanks. The educational program brings to life the Unit on Trees and Forests. We were very fortunate to miss all of the showers and found the mosquitoes, were not a problem.

Respectfully submitted,
